Connecting gardens, groups and growers to create a more resilient food future in Darebin

Happy International Compost Awareness Week!

Grow, eat, compost, repeat! It’s International Compost Awareness Week and we’re celebrating by donating compost made from the food scraps and organic waste you put in your green waste bin at home to Darebin’s local community gardens.

If you’re keen to start home composting, make sure to check out our fantastic compost, worm farm and bokashi tutorials at Darebin Backyard Harvest Series: Backyard Compost – YouTube.

You can also attend a free local workshop:

  • Avoiding & Managing Food Waste Workshop at Span Community House, Thornbury on Saturday 8 May 1:30-3:00pm. Register Here.
  • Worm Farm Workshop at Sylvester Hive Community Garden, Preston on Sunday 16 May, 2pm. Register Here.

If you love compost but don’t have room to compost at home, check out our Community Garden Map and scroll to the bottom for a list of local community compost hubs, or check out Sharewaste to give your waste a second chance.
