Alphington Farmers Market has been awarded the ‘Most Outstanding Farmers Market – Community Initiative’ produce award for their collaborative work with Moving Feast around the weekly market providing food relief to communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With hospitality largely closing down during the Melbourne lockdowns, many farmers in their network were left with excess produce and nowhere for it to go. With the help of partners like DIVRS, Cultivating Community and strEAT, they were able to take it off their hands and onto the plates of those most affected by the covid19 pandemic.
What a fantastic achievement for what was once local tip, now transformed into a productive urban farm and produce hub for farmers and food relief!
