Connecting gardens, groups and growers to create a more resilient food future in Darebin

Backyard Harvest Festival is back 14 – 29 March 2020

The Backyard Harvest Festival celebrates the abundance of fresh and healthy food that is grown right here in Darebin. And it’s back this March 14 -29, as part of Darebin’s new arts and cultural festival, FUSE.

Come along to one of the 22 guided backyard tours, open gardens or workshops and get inspired by local experts to get more active and grow produce in our own backyards. Workshop topics include keeping backyard chicken and quail keeping, organic pest and disease management, permaculture, aquaponics, seedling propagating, composting, fruit tree grafting and citrus maintenance. There are 2 free open gardens: one of the Reservoir Views Primary School sensory garden and the other of Sylvester Hive Community Gardens abundant plots.

There are also two family workshops to encourage kids to grow their own veggies, learn about biodiversity or create a bee hotel out of recycled materials to take home.

Tours and workshops run from one to two hours. Ticket prices for single events are $12 ($6 concession) or take advantage of our $8 ticket ($4 concession) offer when you buy tickets to three or more events in one transaction. Children under 16 can attend for free.
