We are excited to launch our new online food growing and sharing project, Backyard Harvest Stories!
Backyard food gardening is a healthy, grounding and therapeutic activity to do while we are all spending more time at home, and we are partnering with 3000acres to encourage social connection and engagement online through the world of food gardening.
We invite you to post photos and videos of your gardening stories, garden tours, share your skills, tips or tricks, or your favourite sourdough or preserving recipes on Facebook or Instagram. Then tag #darebinbackyardharvest so we can see your posts and share them with the world. One lucky gardener will even win a copy of David Holmgren’s new book Retrosuburbia! To be eligible to win you must live, work or grow food in Darebin.
We will be sharing videos and tours from Backyard Harvest Festival presenters and hosts as well as the great gardening content that is being created at the moment. Local resident and permaculture guru Kat Lavers has been hosting regular free gardening Q&A sessions on Facebook live every Friday over the last 5 weeks. If you missed them, they can still be viewed on her Facebook page here. Permaculture educator, herbalist, medicinal plant expert and local resident Taj ‘The Perma Pixie’ is also running pay-as-you feel Facebook livestreams.
