Connecting gardens, groups and growers to create a more resilient food future in Darebin

Darebin Fruit Squad seeking volunteers

Darebin Fruit Squad is a collective action by members of the Darebin community to minimise waste and ensure the harvest from urban fruit trees reach the vulnerable in our community.

Fruit Squad missed many of the key growing and harvesting seasons due to lockdown and our fruit resources are at an all-time low. With COVID-19 restrictions easing in time for summer they need all the help the community can muster.

How to get involved:

  • Become a Fruit Squad volunteer and help harvest fruit trees in the local community
  • If you have fruit trees that are surplus to your needs, consider donating a portion of your harvest
  • Help get the word out by sharing the project with your fruit growing neighbours – drop a flyer in their letterbox or see if they’d be interested in donating some of their bounty

  1. My calamondin (calamansi) tree is loaded with fruit. Can be used in place of limes and is used for refreshing fruit drinks or making a spicy pickle. Picking the fruit is difficult for me, is there someone who would be interested in doing this?
