Connecting gardens, groups and growers to create a more resilient food future in Darebin

Queensland Fruit Fly trap giveaway for Darebin gardeners

Queensland fruit fly populations start to increase in spring as the weather warms up, and now is the time to install traps to attract, catch and monitor for fruit fly in your fruit trees.

Traps can be purchased from your local nursery or garden centre, or you can try making some yourself! Check out this guide on How to make DIY fruit fly traps by Gardening Australia.

Darebin Council has 30 free QFF traps to give away to local home gardeners and community gardeners. To be eligible for this offer, you must have a Darebin address, collect from our Customer Service Centre in Preston, and be able to show proof of double vaccination upon entry. Only one trap per household or community garden.

Register by emailing environment.support@darebin.vic.gov.au with “QFF Trap Giveaway” in the subject.

If you find QFF in your garden, please notify Council via our online reporting form so we can monitor for outbreaks and hotspots.
