Connecting gardens, groups and growers to create a more resilient food future in Darebin

Forum: Reducing regulatory burden. In conversations with Food regulators, Wed 7 Sep

Not local but might be of interest to Darebin food producers:

Hepburn Shire Council are running a  forum with leading sector Food Regulators for artisan food producers.

Panel speakers include members from; Agriculture Victoria’s Food and Livestock Traceability and Product Integrity team, Primesafe, Dairy Safe, DHS and HSC Environmental Health team

The Artisan Agriculture project within Hepburn Shire was established to assist the local artisan agriculture sector to navigate operational challenges and thrive into the future. One of the barriers the project is working on is to improve access for a more scale-appropriate food regulatory framework. These scale inappropriate food regulations and the direct costs and indirect costs of meeting the demands of food authorities increases the burden especially for small scale agriculture producers. This problem incorporates issues such as the number and complexity of regulations, ongoing compliance issues, and poorly suited requirements for the diversity and complexity of artisan agriculture producers.

The forum will provide valuable updates on food regulations for local government staff working in the Environmental Health professionals, as well as for Farmers and Producers who need to access such services.   It will also provide an opportunity to give feedback to regulators about your experiences.
