Farmer Incubator are a non-profit organisation who aims to grow conscious farmers in a way that empowers them with knowledge, experience, community and connection so that they can contribute to the respectful regeneration of land and the building of a sovereign food future.
After being cancelled a month into the course in 2020 due to the pandemic, their flagship program, Pop-Up Garlic Farmers, is back in 2021!
In this program, participants are supported to grow a market garden scale organic garlic crop in a co-farming model across 5 Melbourne locations. So far the 4 confirmed sites include: Days Walk Farm in Keilor, the Beales Road Farm in Greensborough, Silvertine Farm in the beautiful Yarra Valley Ranges and a BRAND NEW SITE: Fawkner Food Bowls! The fifth site will be announced soon.
Throughout the program you get 8 workshops on topics ranging from soil preparation to pest and disease management to marketing your product. You will get to know other aspiring farmers and develop valuable networks in the urban agriculture community. Plus you get to sell your garlic at the end (or eat it!).
The course starts Saturday 20 February 2021 and registrations close 7 February.
